Story of Douglas Novel

Story of Douglas by Ugochukwu Igwillo is a suspense-filled novel exploring themes of determination, perseverance, and the influence of friendship and fate on destiny. When Francis dies, Douglas abandons his education and later becomes entangled in gang life through Jude. His sister Doris, forced into housemaid work in Lagos, becomes a prostitute. Gang member Spider falls in love with Doris and marries her, successfully leaving criminal life. However, Douglas remains trapped until his arrest. Meanwhile, his school friend Cliff returns from studying Medicine in the United States and coincidentally bails Douglas from police custody alongside another detainee. Both men rebuild their lives—Douglas becomes a tailor while Cliff works in a hospital. Douglas later reconnects with Scorpion, another reformed gang member turned tailor, before following Cliff to America. The narrative culminates in unresolved tensions: whether Spider and Scorpion reunite with former gang members, if Doris reconciles with Gladys, whether Dan reveals Doris's past to Gladys, if Alice forgives Spider, and whether Bullet, the gang's evil mastermind, faces justice.
